How Fast Can You Get a Loan?
When the car won't start or a bill lands out of nowhere, the first question is usually “how quickly can I get the money?” With an online lender, it can be the same day. But “fast” depends on a few things you control and a few you don't.
Here's exactly what happens between hitting “apply” and seeing the money in your account.
The short answer
With most online lenders, you can apply in minutes and get a decision the same business day. At Jingle, once you're approved, your contract is signed and final approval is complete, customers with PayID-enabled banks may receive funds within 60 minutes during business hours. Applications that need extra checks or documents, or that come in outside business hours, can take longer.
From application to money: the timeline
- Apply (minutes). You fill in your details, loan amount and income and expenses online.
- Verify (minutes). You securely share your bank statements so the lender can confirm your income and spending.
- Assess (varies). The lender checks the loan suits you and that you can afford it. At Jingle, a real person reviews every application. It's faster when everything's complete.
- Decide (varies). You're told the outcome. If approved, you receive your loan contract.
- Sign (minutes). You review the costs and repayments and accept the contract online.
- Get paid. After final approval, funds are sent to your account, within 60 minutes with a PayID-enabled bank during business hours.
Times are a guide only. Every application is different, and approval is not guaranteed.
Why lenders can't (and shouldn't) skip the checks
Australian lenders must follow responsible lending laws. Before they lend, they have to check that the loan meets your needs and that you can repay it without substantial hardship. For loans of $2,000 or less, they must review at least 90 days of your bank statements.
So be wary of any lender promising “instant approval” or “no checks”. The checks protect you, and a lender skipping them is a red flag.
What can slow your loan down
- Missing or incomplete information. If something doesn't match, the lender may need to come back to you.
- Extra documents. Sometimes payslips or other documents are needed to verify your situation.
- Applying outside business hours. Applications that need a person to review them may wait until the team is back.
- Your bank doesn't support PayID. Standard bank transfers can take longer, often a business day or more.
- Unclear spending in your statements. Lenders may ask questions to understand your expenses.
How to get your loan faster
- Have your ID and online banking login handy before you start.
- Apply early on a business day so there's time for review and payment the same day. If you're in WA, remember the east-coast time difference.
- Double-check your details. Accurate income and expense information means fewer follow-up questions.
- Answer any follow-up quickly. Keep an eye on your email and phone after you apply.
- Check your bank supports PayID so funds can arrive faster once approved.
How does PayID work?
PayID lets money be sent to an easy identifier, like your mobile number or email address, linked to your bank account. It runs on the New Payments Platform, so payments between participating banks usually arrive in close to real time rather than the next business day.
Most major Australian banks support PayID. You can usually set one up in your banking app in a few minutes. When a lender like Jingle pays your loan via PayID, that's what makes funds within 60 minutes possible once your loan is finalised.
Fast shouldn't mean rushed
The fastest loan isn't always the best one. Before you accept, take a few minutes to check:
- The total amount you'll repay, not just the repayment
- Whether the repayments fit your budget alongside rent, bills and groceries
- Cheaper options, like a payment plan with your provider or a no-interest loan through NILS (13 64 57)
